Agents

Creating agents

The three ways to create an agent, and how the editor is laid out.

An agent is an AI voice agent that answers calls or places them. Everything it knows, says and can do is configured in one place: the agent editor.

The three ways

Create agent on the agent list gives you three options. They lead to the same result and differ only in how much is filled in for you.

From a template

You pick a ready-made use case such as reception or appointment booking. Prompt, greeting and matching capabilities come pre-filled for you to adapt.

With Scalia

The AI agent builder asks you about your business and builds the agent from your answers. The fastest route if you do not yet know what a good prompt looks like.

Manually

An empty agent. You write everything yourself. Useful when you already have a prompt or are rebuilding an existing agent.

Recommendation for your first agent

Start with Scalia or a template. An empty prompt is the hardest possible starting point, and both routes give you a structure you can then rewrite deliberately.

The editor

Every agent has three tabs, worked through in order:

TabPurpose
BuildThe agent's entire configuration
TestA browser conversation before a number is involved
ConnectAssign a phone number and go live

The Build tab is split into four areas that follow the shape of a conversation:

Identity

Who the agent is and when it is available.

Instructions

What the agent should do and what it knows about the caller.

Competencies

What the agent can reach, and what happens after the call.

Tuning

The polish, once the content is already right.

Draft and active

A new agent starts as a draft. It is fully configurable and testable but takes no real calls. Only once you activate it and assign a phone number does it go live.

Drafts are free

You can create and experiment with as many draft agents as you like. Billing starts with the call minutes of real calls.
